Last week proved to a be a big one for the Husky Cross Country team as they kicked off the season in style at the Fleet Feet Classic Invite at Parkway Central and followed that up with some amazing performances at the Ft. Zumwalt North Twilight Invitational.
Sophmore Ben Weissler led the charge scoring a top 20 finish at Fleet Feet before running the fastest time in 10 years for a Ritenour XC runner covering the 5k distance at Pheasant Run golf course in a time of 16:57. He was followed closely in both races by Senior Joe Kipper who nabbed a top 20 finish of his own at Fleet Feet and was only a few seconds back of Weissler at Pheasant Run going 17:03.
Jazmine Brevik was the first Husky to cross the line for the women in both races. At Pheasant run she grabbed a huge personal best of 23:16 cutting a minute off of her previous best time.
Overall the Husky XC athletes went 15 for 15 with personal bests at Pheasant Run as the combination of great competition, beautiful weather and a flat course provided ample opportunity to run fast!
This week the Huskies will be at St. Vincent Park for the Ladue/Clayton Invitational. Varsity Boys will kick off the racing in what should prove to be a very competitive field!
