This Saturday at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course in Columbia, MO athletes from all over the state will convene for the 2019 State Cross Country Championships. This year’s race will be the first at the new Gans Creek course that was constructed through a partnership between the University of Missouri and the City of Columbia. Jefferson City had previously hosted the State Championships at Oak Hills Golf Course.
After posting a 23rd place finish in the Class 4A Sectional 1 meet at Parkway Central H.S. last weekend, Ritenour Senior, Joe Kipper, is the first Husky XC runner to toe the line at the meet in 7 years(Rashad Harris, 2012). Sophomore, Ben Weissler, also raced last weekend, finishing outside the top-30.
Kipper, a 2-time state qualifier in track, will look too improve upon his season best time of 16:45 (St. Vincent Park) on the sloping turns of Gans Creek as he mixes it up with the best the state has too offer in Class 4A. Joe has also been a medalist in his last 6 races including two top-10 finishes at the Hazelwood West Invite and the Class 4A District 2 meet.
Good luck at State Joe!
